This mask is created by local artists from the Ashanti tribe of Akan people. It is believed that artisans are able to sense the spiritual power that dwells in the materials they use to create masks. The energy of the spirit is thought to inhabit the artist's instruments, so their tools must be handled with extreme caution. As the mask gradually begins to take shape, the object is believed to acquire more supernatural abilities.
